Angelina Jolie has added yet another job title to her already impressive resume as a mother of six, actress, director, film producer, social activist, and university lecturer. She is now also serving as an editor for Time magazine.
On June 20th, the Editor-in-Chief and CEO of Time, Edward Felsenthal, announced that Angelina Jolie would be writing about “migration, conflict and human rights” for the magazine. Having served as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for 18 years, Angelina has extensive experience in global humanitarian work, making her a perfect fit for this new role. Her monthly articles will be featured on all Time magazine platforms.
Angelina Jolie’s first article titled “What We Owe Refugees” was recently published in Time magazine to coincide with World Refugee Day on June 20. The article draws a comparison between the current refugee crisis and the displacement of people during World War II, which led to the creation of the United Nations Refugee Agency. Jolie highlights the fact that refugees come from all over the world and encourages readers to empathize with their struggles by asking them to imagine what it would be like to be in their shoes. For instance, she suggests that if you were to ask a child of a World War II refugee what it’s like to be displaced, they might describe someone from Europe.
The issue of asylum is a widely discussed topic around the world, particularly in the United States where Angelina Jolie hails from. Angelina believes that helping refugees is not a choice but a duty under international law. She emphasizes that it is feasible to maintain strict and just border controls and immigration policies while also fulfilling our responsibility to aid refugees. However, this stance is polarizing in both the US and Europe.
In the past, the famous personality known as the Wanted star wrote an article for Time magazine discussing the crucial involvement of women in peace negotiations in Afghanistan. Nowadays, Angelina Jolie is busy filming Those Who Wish Me Dead in New Mexico, while also slated to partake in two other movie projects titled The One and Only Ivan and Come Away.
